That was my response when Rodrigo Muñoz contacted me a few months ago wondering if I’d make a music video for him. (I’m also, by the way, not remotely musically inclined.)

I gave him a link to my film What Comes Between and then he understood what I meant. But he still thought a collaboration could work, and so here I am a few months later making a music video.

Rodrigo gave me a few songs to pick from, and I selected Cumbia 42, a collaboration with Jim Hiscott from their newly released CD, Norte Tropical30 years in the making.

Those who know my work will not be surprised to see a young girl as the main character. And those who know me personally will note I’ve finally found the right opportunity to tuck in a dog into one of my movies. It was drizzling earlier in the morning just prior to the shoot and I’d wondered if we’d be able to go ahead, but the day ended up being perfect for consistent light.

“This isn’t going to be fast,” was the last thing I told Rodrigo, and as I write I don’t know for sure when this video will be done. But, soon.
