I’m thrilled to announce that my film lessons on flight (2024) has been selected for screening at FIFA: Le Festival International du Film sur l’Art in Montreal, Sat Mar 15 at 5:30 PM at the Université Concordia (J.A. de Sève, LB-125, Pavillon J. W. McConnell).

Nicole Gingras

Araneda’s art practice is strongly rooted in the examination of private and public memory as it connects to identity. Renown for her documentary essays based on personal experiences, the filmmaker has also developed a singular approach to experimental filmmaking where the intimacy and fragility of an observation are mediated by carefully processed images and sounds. / Nicole Gingras

Shot on B&W 16 mm film, eco-processed with olives and hand coloured on site in rural Chile, lessons on flight examines the flight patterns of the green-backed firecrown hummingbird.

Special thanks to Franci Duran, Elian Mikkola, Chad Tremblay, the Araneda Espinoza family and the Canada Council for the Arts for making this film possible.

In memory of María Laurina Espinoza Hernández, who planted the gardens the hummingbirds feed on, and who wished for this place to never be forgotten.
