I recently led a 16 mm Film Experiments Workshop in November 2025 in the Mapuche Nation, jointly with Toronto filmmaker Franci Duran (who zoomed in), as part of Kelluwün Media’s Semillero’s residency for Mapuche filmmakers and creators, at Rayen Mawiza in Challupen, Chile.
The program included instruction on direct animation with found footage, phytograms, and how to operate a Bolex camera and light meter (including filming!).
I have been exchanging with and working in solidarity with Mapuche filmmakers and creatives for over a decade now, teaching workshops, engaging in curatorial research, serving on film and arts assessment panels and providing occasional mentorships. The workshop was part of this ongoing community work.
