SEVEN HILLS, Ohio . Hertha O. Weger (nee Leichnitz), 86, of Seven Hills, Ohio, passed away suddenly but peacefully Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006, at Community Medical Center in Missoula. Hertha was born June 25, 1920, in Cleveland to Edward and Emma Leichnitz. She grew up in Cleveland where she graduated from West High. For two years, Hertha attended Fenn College (now Cleveland State) for business classes. On July 17, 1942, she married Matthew J. Weger in Cleveland. The couple lived in the greater Cleveland area until moving to Seven Hills in 1958 to raise a family. Hertha worked as a bookkeeper for many years in the private sector, as well as for Cuyahoga Valley Vocational School and the Parma Public School System.

She was a very active member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Independence, Ohio. For more than 20 years, she was treasurer of the Concordia Crafter group, making crafts for the church bazaar where proceeds were awarded as scholarships or donated to needy organizations and missions. She spent more than 18 years cooking for the Kiwanis lunches as a member of the Women of Concordia. Hertha enjoyed working with her hands. She knitted, sewed and did cutwork needlework. She knitted many hats for the premature babies at Community Medical Center in Missoula. She was a member of a traditional rug hooking club and participated in demonstrations during festivals at Zoar, Ohio. She was about to tackle some quilting projects and she loved attending quilt shows. Politically, she was active in the Republican Party. She served as a precinct commission leader and an election judge. Hertha also volunteered many hours to help candidates running for office. Hertha loved to travel and split her time between Cleveland and Missoula. A hardworking, gracious lady, she always had a smile on her face and a positive friendly word for all. Her family was very important to her and she was always there to help others and spread her love and care. She was preceded in death by her husband Matthew. Survivors include her daughter, Lynn G. Welter of Missoula; son and daughter-in-law Robert M. and Darlene Welter of Willoughby Hills, Ohio; grandchildren Elizabeth and husband Jason Hughes of Willowick, Ohio, Lauren Walden of Willoughby Hills and Matthew Walden of Willoughby Hills; great-grandchildren Allison and Samantha Hughes of Willowick; sister and brother-in-law Lucille and Herbert Mayer of Seven Hills; nephews William, James and John Mayer; grand-nephews Thomas and David Mayer; grand-nieces Jacquelyn and Erica Mayer; plus many, many cousins. Family and friends are invited to greet the family from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at Rybicki Funeral Home in Broadview Heights, Ohio. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Hendrix officiating. Hertha will be laid to rest at Lutheran Memorial Park in Medina, Ohio.
