Spanish Last NamesSpanish last names recorded as they would be in Spanish, which is generally Father's last name first, followed by the Mother's last name. In older records, “y” (“and”) is used to separate these two last names, however this practice is now no longer used.

Difference in Records In some cases, people will have different last names at birth and at marriage and / or death (unrelated to assuming a married name). These name shifts occurred prior to 1900, and it is believed they are due to having had a stepfather or a mistake made in baptism records, corrected later. This occurs in the Seguel/Bejar, Irribarra/Paves and Dzundza/Semczuk lines.
