Notes for Johann Karl Brenner


Karl Brenner, age fifty years, evangelical Lutheran, from Rizenberg, Baden, was listed as one of the first twelve colonist families settled in Illischestie on a 14 July 1788 transfer list.

He arrived as a widower, father of "Phillip Peter, age fourteen years old, Johann Karl, age twelve years old, Anna Margareth, age eighteen years old, Elisa, age seventeen years old; and Maria Dorothea, age seven years old."

He was assigned an unfinished and unnumbered house in Illischestie.

According to a 14 July 1788 account settlement, Karl Brenner received 75 Gulden, 8 7/8 Kreuzer for his support. This include natural produce worth 38 Gulden, 21 7/8 Kreuzer and 36 Gulden, 47 Kreuzer in cash from the Austrian government.

Johnn Karl Brenner was a cattle herdsman and after 1773 was a bondsman at the iron works in Abentheuer and Buhlenberg, which were owned by Kommerzienrates (Commerce Council)
