MUJER ARTISTA: A STARTING POINT
Essay by Cecilia Araneda and Praba Pilar

In 2014, Cecilia Araneda co-founded the Winnipeg-based cross-disciplinary Mujer Artista collective together with performance artist Praba Pilar and visual artist Monica Martinez.

Mujer Artista was created out of the need they identified to better support Latin women artists locally, as these artists often work in isolation without system support due to language and culture barriers.

Mujer Artista‘s first group show, “Speaking in Tongues,” was presented at aceartinc January – February 2017. Video documentation is also available on the Mujer Artista website.

We acknowledge the generous support of the Canada Council for the Arts in enabling us to bring the Mujer Artista vision to life.

We also acknowledge the vital partnership support provided by MAWA: Mentoring Artists for Women’s Art and aceartinc
